About the event

“Open Source” (A theology based on the voices of many) Open Source asks the question: “If someone knocks on your spiritual door, will you let them in? If someone is lost, speaks a different language, looks different, believes differently, will you let them in?” It asks: “Will you have my back?” The answer is: “Open. Come in.” With this commitment: “We try. We rise. We fail. We rise. We Misunderstand. We rise. We heal. We rise. All rise. We rise”   A new work for string quartet, “Open Source” is a collaboration between composer Karl Blench and librettist Jacqui Sutton for String Quartet and bass-baritone. Commissioned by the First Congregational Church of Houston and Maggie Tucker, the work is inspired by the history and the mission of the church: to serve as a place of belonging for everyone regardless of race or creed.   The Axiom Quartet will be performing the work alongside bass-baritone Timothy Jones. To complement Karl Blench, the Axiom Quartet will be performing Ives String Quartet #1.
