The Axiom Quartet’s 2025-2026 season embarks on an extraordinary journey through the complete fifteen string quartets of Dmitri Shostakovich, performed in chronological order to illuminate the profound story of Shostakovich’s life. These quartets serve as an intimate musical diary, reflecting his struggles, triumphs, and the shifting tides of history. To provide a broader historical perspective, each program will also feature works by Shostakovich’s international contemporaries from around the world who lived and created during his lifetime. This juxtaposition offers a global context to the turbulent 20th century, inviting audiences to experience Shostakovich’s evolution alongside the diverse musical voices of his era.
